ABSTRACT

Objective: To reveal the classification characteristics of college students' mental health literacy and compare their differences in professional psychological help-seeking behavior. Methods: Totally 12 850 college students were selected and assessed with the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire (MHLQ), Self-made Questionnaire of Professional Psychological Help-seeking Behavior in Non-epidemic and COVID-19 epidemic and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Latent profile analysis was used to classify the mental health literacy of college students. The Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to explore the differences in professional psychological help-seeking behavior of different classes of college students. Results: College students' mental health literacy could be divided into three classes including low-literacy group (7.4%), medium-literacy group (50.2%) and high-literacy group (42.4%). After controlling for demographic variables and depression level, logistic regression analysis found that there was no significant correlation between mental health literacy and professional psychological help-seeking behavior in non-epidemic situations. In the COVID-19 epidemic, compared with the low-literacy group, the medium-literacy group was more likely to seek professional psychological help (OR=1.32). The medium-literacy group and the high-literacy group were more likely to recommend others for help (OR=1.77, 2.45). Conclusion: The mental health literacy of college students has classification characteristics. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the college students with higher mental health literacy have greater possibility of seeking professional help and recommending others for seeking help. ABSTRACT

The aim of the research. To conduct a cluster analysis of the assessment profile of students who participated in work of medical organisations providing care to COVID-19 patients to develop recommendations for its correction. Material and methods. The study was carried out at the premises of Prof. V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasSMU). The study group was constituted by 66 students in 3-6 years of study of the Medical and the Paediatric faculties of the University who took part in activities of medical organisations providing healthcare to patients with COVID-19. The items were presented in the form of binary questions and ranking scales. The analysis of qualitative attributes was carried out in the form of relative values with calculation of the standard error of the proportion. For ranking and nonparametric quantitative characteristics, the mode, median, centiles (Me [P25;P75]) and other nonparametric criteria for comparative statistics and communication statistics were used. For segmentation of respondents according to some criteria, depending on the answers, the method "two-step cluster analysis" and the method of "decision tree" were used. Results. The results of the study indicate a high motivational component related to practical medical activity of medical students during the difficult epidemiological situation since 94.1% of the respondents declared the readiness to support practical healthcare. Almost half of the surveyed 47.0% of students included in cluster 2, in contrast to students of clusters 1 and 3, are characterised by a high opinion on the degree of their contribution to the struggle against the COVID-19 epidemic and a high level of knowledge and skills, rating themselves at about 9.0 points out of 10 possible. In addition, the results of the study indicate an association between the level of students' self-esteem in regard to their contribution to the fight against COVID-19 with the level of the students' self-esteem of knowledge and skills and the duration of work in a medical organisation. Conclusion. The analysis performed has made it possible to formulate guidelines for support of medical students' professional attitudes within the framework of practice-oriented education, including distance learning.Copyright © 2021, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University. ABSTRACT

The virtuality of organizational teams have gained interest and popularity in recent years, and have become more prevalent amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizational productivity and team relationship-building may suffer certain pitfalls in virtual communication and support without the understanding of the dynamics of short-term, project-based virtual teams. The manuscript aimed to expand what is currently known about short-term virtual team dynamics related to types of effective leadership behaviors. The present study employed a mixed method approach to understanding the dynamics of these teams at both the individual and team level. Small teams were formed and instructed to collaborate on a virtual survival task. Team-related outcomes were measured at the individual level, such as team coordination, team support, and team success. Additionally, distinct latent profiles of leadership behaviors were developed and analyzed at the team level. Team support, more so than team coordination, significantly predicted team success at the individual level, with instrumental support having the strongest effect. Distinct leadership behaviors emerged in teams and were classified through a latent profile analysis, but none of the profiles were significantly related to team performance scores. Demonstrating instrumental support in short-term virtual teams may improve team success. It is important to understand that distinct leadership behaviors exist and future research should explore the impact of these leadership behaviors on other team-related outcomes. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Machine learning models can use information from gene expressions in patients to efficiently predict the severity of symptoms for several diseases. Medical experts, however, still need to understand the reasoning behind the predictions before trusting them. In their day-to-day practice, physicians prefer using gene expression profiles, consisting of a discretized subset of all data from gene expressions: in these profiles, genes are typically reported as either over-expressed or under-expressed, using discretization thresholds computed on data from a healthy control group. A discretized profile allows medical experts to quickly categorize patients at a glance. Building on previous works related to the automatic discretization of patient profiles, we present a novel approach that frames the problem as a multi-objective optimization task: on the one hand, after discretization, the medical expert would prefer to have as few different profiles as possible, to be able to classify patients in an intuitive way;on the other hand, the loss of information has to be minimized. Loss of information can be estimated using the performance of a classifier trained on the discretized gene expression levels. We apply one common state-of-the-art evolutionary multi-objective algorithm, NSGA-II, to the discretization of a dataset of COVID-19 patients that developed either mild or severe symptoms. The results show not only that the solutions found by the approach dominate traditional discretization based on statistical analysis and are more generally valid than those obtained through single-objective optimization, but that the candidate Pareto-optimal solutions preserve the sense-making that practitioners find necessary to trust the results. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Knowledge payment is a new method of electronic learning that has developed in the era of social media. With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the market for knowledge payment is rapidly expanding. Exploring the factors that influence users' sustained willingness is beneficial for better communication between knowledge payment platforms and users, and for achieving a healthier and more sustainable development of the knowledge payment industry. The model of unsustainable usage behavior of knowledge payment users was constructed on the basis of expectation inconsistency theory, price equilibrium theory, and perceived value theory, using the 'cognitive-emotional-behavioral' model framework of cognitive emotion theory. The data were collected from 348 users through a web-based questionnaire and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings show that expectation inconsistency, price equilibrium, and quality value, emotional value, and social value have significant effects on discontinuous use intentions. Discontinuous use intentions also significantly affect discontinuous use behavior. © 2013 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

e-Employee Discipline is the electronic and remote conduction of employee discipline procedure during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a quantitative descriptive study that focused on assessing and analyzing the implementation of e-Employee Discipline Procedure. Convenient purposive sampling technique was assigned to 150 employees who were employed during COVID-19 pandemic in Metro Manila as the respondents in this study. Furthermore, a survey was utilized to gather quantitative data. Moreover, a one-on-one interview using the data gathered in the statistical result was utilized to gather qualitative data. The demographic profile, majority are male (60%) who age 22 to 25 years old (34%), who are college graduates (48.7%), having an entry level job position (46.7%) and working in art/media/communication industry (35.3%) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The respondents find that the implementation of the e-Employee Discipline Procedure as fair and effective in terms of proper documentation procedures, handling of confidentiality, safety and security ( = 4.64;σ = 0.68). However, the challenge is that the respondents moderately agree that the procedure of employee discipline that is conducted remotely is somehow a bit far off with what is usually done in the office (face-to-face) ( = 4.38;σ = 1.30). The absence of physical touch and non-verbal cues like tone of voice, body language and hand gesture are something that the respondents are longing for. Pandemic really detached people from the warmth of each other. Conducting employee discipline which oftentimes has dealt with emotions remotely finds the respondents longing for the physical presence of being heard. © 2023 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aims to describe the profile of students' learning motivation in online learning and compare intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Furthermore, the research also seeks to examine the development of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation over time during online learning. Design/Methodology/Approach: This survey research was conducted for mathematics learning at the Vocational High School level, involving a sample of 218 students selected by multistage random sampling technique. Questionnaires were administered periodically three times at an interval of six weeks. Data were analyzed using profile analysis. Findings: The analysis revealed that the intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions of students' learning motivation tend to be parallel, with the intrinsic dimension being higher than the extrinsic dimension. The period of time also affects the development of students' learning motivation, both for the intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of independent learning activities in online learning, which tend to develop and encourage the growth of internal motivation, essential for lifelong learning. Teachers are recommended to apply various learning theories in the digital era to increase students' internal and external motivation. In addition to well-designed learning materials, the effectiveness of online learning also depends on motivating interactions between instructors and students. Well-designed materials supported by a variety of communication media make online learning very beneficial. © 2023 by the authors. ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 on the reproductive health indicators of cadets of military educational organizations. In the Department of Assisted Reproductive Technologies at the Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Kirov Military Medical Academy, 183 male cadets aged 21–27 years were divided into two groups and examined. The first group consisted of 132 cadets who had mild and moderate COVID-19, and the second group included 51 cadets without COVID-19 in the anamnesis. COVID-19 was found negatively affect the reproductive health of cadets. Individuals who previously had COVID-19 were found to have a significant decrease in the level of total testosterone and decreased concentration and mobility of sperm in the ejaculate. Moreover, in cadets without COVID-19 who were vaccinated with the combined vector vaccine "Gam-COVID-Vac,” the indicators of the hormonal profile and spermograms were within the reference values. The results indicate the need for further investigation of the effect of various negative factors, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, on the reproductive health of cadets of military educational organizations. Moreover, the development of preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitation measures will reduce the risk of infertility and reproductive losses, which is consistent with the interests of national projects on healthcare and demography. ABSTRACT

Individual differences in sociodemographic characteristics and trait-like perceptions of opportunities and constraints may shape how people respond to adversities such as the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little is known about how these factors combine to form multifaceted profiles of developmental opportunity and constraint or the implications of such profiles for longitudinal well-being following major life stressors. Using 1-year data from a national sample of U.S. adults (n = 293), we identified profiles based on relevant sociodemographic characteristics (age, socioeconomic status, chronic conditions, functional status) and trait-like perceptions of opportunity and constraints (perceived mastery, perceived constraints). Results of latent profile analyses showed that three common profiles emerged at pandemic onset (veridical opportunity, perceived constraints, perceived opportunity). Subsequent latent growth models showed that, despite reporting more sociodemographic constraints, the perceived opportunity profile exhibited better 1-year emotional well-being (positive and negative affect) during the pandemic than the perceived constraints profile. Findings advance the literature by identifying multifaceted individual differences in profiles of developmental opportunity and constraint and by showing these profiles have consequences for longitudinal well-being following the pandemic onset. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore potential categories of parental social support for young parents under the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, and to examine correlations of different types of parents' social support with parental burnout. METHOD(S): In April 2020, we conducted an online voluntary survey among young parents across China with scales and a self-designed questionnaire. The latent profile analysis method was used to analyze parents' received social support and perceived social support. The social support categories were taken as independent variables and parental burnout as dependent variables, and multiple regression analysis was carried out to explore the relationship between received social support, perceived social support and parental burnout. Finally, the moderating effect of resilience between social support groups and parental burnout was discussed. RESULT(S): The results of latent profile analysis revealed three potential types of received social support, namely isolate, normal, and multi-support and the proportions of the respondents with the three profiles were 14.1%, 78.0%, and 7.9%. Four potential types of perceived social support, namely, indigent, medium, affluent and divergent and the proportions of the respondents with the four profiles were 13.7%, 29.6%, 25.3%, and 31.3%. Among them, the parents with divergent perceived social support had more perception of social support from the couple, family and relatives, but less perception of social support from net-friend, social organizations and the government. Regression analysis showed that there was no statistically significant correlation between different profiles of received social support and parental burnout, and among the groups of perceived social support, there was a statistically significant correlation between indigent and divergent types of social support and parental burnout. The divergent parents had lower levels of parental burnout compared with indigent (beta=-0.120, P=0.003). Also, resilience moderated the effect of divergent perceived social support and parental burnout. Compared with the parents with low resilience, the parents with high resilience perceived divergent social support with lower parenting burnout. CONCLUSION(S): There are prominent latent types of received social support and perceived social support under epidemic. People with divergent perceived social support (more perceived supports from partner, family and friends) are prone to have a relatively lower risk of parental burnout. Parents with higher resilience will be more sensitive to the support of close acquaintances, and can better resist parental burnout.

ABSTRACT

Background: Patients with cancer are at a higher risk of getting infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 owing to their immunocompromised state. Providing care to these patients amidst the first wave of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was extremely challenging. Objective(s): This study was aimed at evaluating the clinical profile and disease-related outcomes of pediatric patients with hematological illnesses and cancer. Material(s) and Method(s): This retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary care center in North India during the first wave of the pandemic from March 2020 to December 2020. Children aged up to 18 years, who were treated for a hematological illness or malignancy or underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and tested positive for COVID-19 regardless of symptoms were included in the study. Baseline demographic data related to the age, diagnosis, treatment status, and chemotherapy protocol used were collected. Outcomes including the cure rates, comorbidities, and sequelae were recorded. Result(s): A total of 650 tests for COVID-19 were performed for 181 children;22 patients were found to be COVID-19 positive. The most common diagnosis was acute leukemia (63.6%). None of the patients developed COVID-19 pneumonia. The majority of patients had asymptomatic infection and were managed at home. Among those with a symptomatic infection, the most common symptoms were fever and cough. A total of 3 (13.6%) patients needed oxygen therapy, one developed multisystem inflammatory syndrome of children leading to cardiogenic shock. Three patients required intensive care or respiratory support;all the patients had favorable clinical outcomes. The median time from the onset of COVID-19 to a negative result on the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test was 21.3 days. Cancer treatment was modified in 15 patients (68.2%). Conclusion(s): Our results suggest that children with hemato-oncological illnesses rarely experience severe COVID-19 disease. The impact of the first wave of COVID-19 primarily manifested as disruptions in the logistic planning and administration of essential treatment to these children rather than COVID-19 sequelae.Copyright © 2021 Cancer Research, Statistics, and Treatment Published by Wolters Kluwer - Medknow.

ABSTRACT

Day-to-day clinical management of patients with inborn errors of immunity, including chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), has been affected by the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. There is a dearth of information on impact of this pandemic on clinical care of children with CGD and psychological profile of the caretakers. Among the 101 patients with CGD followed up in our center, 5 children developed infection/complications associated with COVID-19. Four of these children had a mild clinical course, while 1 child developed features of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MISC) requiring intravenous glucocorticoids. Parents and caretakers of CGD patients (n = 21) and 21 healthy adults with similar ages and genders were also evaluated on the following scales and questionnaires: COVID-19 Fear Scale (FCV 19S), Impact of Event Scale (IES-R), Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS 21), Preventive COVID-19 Behavior Scale (PCV 19BS), and a "COVID-19 Psychological wellbeing questionnaire." Median age of the parents/caregivers was 41.76 years (range: 28-60 years). Male:female ratio was 2:1. In the study group, 71.4% had higher IES scores compared to 14.3% in controls. The caregivers had a high prevalence of stress, anxiety, avoidance behavior, and depression compared to controls (p < 0.001). Children with CGD have had predominantly mild infection with COVID-19; however, caregivers/parents of these children were at risk of developing psychological distress. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light the importance of patients' and caretakers' mental health which needs periodic assessment and appropriate interventions.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Severe COVID-19 can result in a significant and irreversible impact on long-term recovery and subsequent immune protection. Understanding the complex immune reactions may be useful for establishing clinically relevant monitoring. METHODS: Hospitalized adults with SARS-CoV-2 between March/October 2020 (n = 64) were selected. Cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and plasma samples were obtained at hospitalization (baseline) and 6 months after recovery. Immunological components' phenotyping and SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell response were studied in PBMCs by flow cytometry. Up to 25 plasma pro/anti-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines were assessed by LEGENDplex immunoassays. The SARS-CoV-2 group was compared to matched healthy donors. RESULTS: Biochemical altered parameters during infection were normalized at a follow-up time point in the SARS-CoV-2 group. Most of the cytokine/chemokine levels were increased at baseline in the SARS-CoV-2 group. This group showed increased Natural Killer cells (NK) activation and decreased CD16high NK subset, which normalized six months later. They also presented a higher intermediate and patrolling monocyte proportion at baseline. T cells showed an increased terminally differentiated (TemRA) and effector memory (EM) subsets distribution in the SARS-CoV-2 group at baseline and continued to increase six months later. Interestingly, T-cell activation (CD38) in this group decreased at the follow-up time point, contrary to exhaustion markers (TIM3/PD1). In addition, we observed the highest SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell magnitude response in TemRA CD4 T-cell and EM CD8 T-cell subsets at the six-months time point. CONCLUSIONS: The immunological activation in the SARS-CoV-2 group during hospitalization is reversed at the follow-up time point. However, the marked exhaustion pattern remains over time. This dysregulation could constitute a risk factor for reinfection and the development of other pathologies. Additionally, high SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cells response levels appear to be associated with infection severity.

Objective: To assess the profile of allergist/immunologist (A/I) physicians in Brazil, the workplace, the access to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on professional practice. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted as an online survey. All adhering members of the Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunology (ASBAI) received a Google Forms tool by email. The questionnaire addressed sociodemographic and professional aspects of the Brazilian allergists/immunologists (A/I) daily routine. The information was analyzed by SPSS version 20.0. Results: Four hundred and sixty members answered the questionnaire. Women were predominant among the responders (336; 73%), and the median age was 47 years (range, 27-82 years). Most participants worked in the private sector (437, 95%), whereas 256 (47%) worked in the public sector. Among the public sector employees, 210 (82%) reported having access to some diagnostic test for allergic diseases and inborn errors of immunity. Only 91 (35%) A/I physicians in the public system had access to allergen-specific immunotherapy, compared to 416 (95, 9%) of those in the private sector. Regarding biological drugs, 135 (52.7%) and 314 (71.9%) of the A/I physicians working in the public and private sector, respectively, reported access. Two hundred and eighty-three (61.6%) had at least a 50% reduction in the number of consultations, and 245 (56%) provided telemedicine care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Brazilian A/I have incorporated the most recent advances in managing immunoallergic diseases into their clinical practice, but they still have little access to various diagnostic methods. Strategies to enable the presence of A/I in public health services should be discussed and implemented. The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the incorporation of telemedicine as a viable and promising method of medical care and can expand access to the specialty.

Despite extensive research to decipher the immunological basis of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), limited evidence on immunological correlates of COVID-19 severity from MENA region and Egypt was reported. In a single-center cross-sectional study, we have analyzed 25 cytokines that are related to immunopathologic lung injury, cytokine storm, and coagulopathy in plasma samples from 78 hospitalized Egyptian COVID-19 patients in Tanta University Quarantine Hospital and 21 healthy control volunteers between April 2020 and September 2020. The enrolled patients were divided into 4 categories based on disease severity, namely mild, moderate, severe, and critically ill. Interestingly, interleukin (IL)-1-α, IL-2Rα, IL-6, IL-8, IL-18, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), FGF1, CCL2, and CXC10 levels were significantly altered in severe and/or critically ill patients. Moreover, principal component analysis (PCA) demonstrated that severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients cluster based on specific cytokine signatures that distinguish them from mild and moderate COVID-19 patients. Specifically, levels of IL-2Rα, IL-6, IL-10, IL-18, TNF-α, FGF1, and CXCL10 largely contribute to the observed differences between early and late stages of COVID-19 disease. Our PCA showed that the described immunological markers positively correlate with high D-dimer and C-reactive protein levels and inversely correlate with lymphocyte counts in severe and critically ill patients. These data suggest a disordered immune regulation, particularly in severe and critically ill Egyptian COVID-19 patients, manifested as overactivated innate immune and dysregulated T-helper1 responses. Additionally, our study emphasizes the importance of cytokine profiling to identify potentially predictive immunological signatures of COVID-19 disease severity.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 booster vaccinations have been recommended as a primary line of defence against serious illness and hospitalisation. This study identifies and characterises distinct profiles of attitudes towards vaccination, particularly the willingness to get a booster dose. A sample of 582 adults from Australia completed an online survey capturing COVID-related behaviours, beliefs and attitudes and a range of sociodemographic, psychological, political, social and cultural variables. Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) identified three subgroups: Acceptant (61%), Hesitant (30%) and Resistant (9%). Compared to the Acceptant group, the Hesitant and Resistant groups were less worried about catching COVID-19, used fewer official COVID-19 information sources, checked the news less, were lower on the agreeableness personality dimension and reported more conservatism, persecutory thinking, amoral attitudes and need for chaos. The Hesitant group also reported checking the legitimacy of information sources less, scored lower on the openness to new experiences personality dimension and were more likely than the Resistant and Acceptant groups to report regaining freedoms (e.g., travel) and work requirements or external pressures as reasons to get a booster. The Resistant group were higher on reactance, held more conspiratorial beliefs and rated their culture as being less tolerant of deviance than the Hesitant and Acceptant groups. This research can inform tailored approaches to increasing booster uptake and optimal strategies for public health messaging.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Although the link between psychological flexibility and healthy functioning has been widely analyzed, the employed measurements often lacked accuracy. The current study introduced a person-centered approach that identified subgroups of college students across the dimensions of the Personalized Psychological Flexibility Index (PPFI) and explored how these subgroups relate to a risk factor (perceived stress) and mental health outcomes (depression, anxiety, negative affect, and positive affect) in the context of COVID-19. Methods: A sample of 659 participants (Mage = 19. 99, SD = 1.27; 57.97% females) completed the questionnaires online. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was employed to determine the optimal number of subgroups or profiles. Then, multinomial logistic regression and analyses of variance were used to identify variables associated with profile membership. Results: LPA identified three distinct profiles (active strategy, inconsistent strategy, and passive strategy). Furthermore, multinomial logistic regressions indicated that students with high perceived stress were more likely to be in the passive strategy group than the active strategy group (ß = -0.104, OR = 0.901, p < 0.001) and the inconsistent strategy group (ß = -0.087, OR = 0.917, p < 0.001). Additionally, analyses of variance revealed that the three profiles differed in depression (η2 = 0.062, p < 0.001), anxiety (η2 = 0.059, p < 0.001), negative affect (η2 = 0.047, p < 0.001), and positive affect (η2 = 0.048, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The current study employed LPA based on the PPFI to identify and confirm three profiles of psychological flexibility. We found that perceived stress and mental health outcomes were associated with these three profiles. This study offers a new perspective on understanding psychological flexibility through a person-centered approach. Furthermore, interventions aimed at reducing college students' perceived stress during the COVID-19 crisis are critical for preventing the deterioration of psychological flexibility.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (CARDS) is associated with high mortality rates. We still have limited knowledge of the complex alterations developing in the lung microenvironment. The goal of the present study was to comprehensively analyze the cellular components, inflammatory signature, and respiratory pathogens in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of CARDS patients (16) in comparison to those of other invasively mechanically ventilated patients (24). In CARDS patients, BAL analysis revealed: SARS-CoV-2 infection frequently associated with other respiratory pathogens, significantly higher neutrophil granulocyte percentage, remarkably low interferon-gamma expression, and high levels of interleukins (IL)-1ß and IL-9. The most important predictive variables for worse outcomes were age, IL-18 expression, and BAL neutrophilia. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that was able to identify, through a comprehensive analysis of BAL, several aspects relevant to the complex pathophysiology of CARDS.

ABSTRACT

The sudden shift to remote work offered a unique opportunity to investigate the effect of meeting modality on team decisions. We present data on classroom teams solving a classic team decision task type, the hidden profile, where members each have unique information that must be combined to arrive at the correct solution. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, we collected data on teams solving hidden profiles in-person, over Zoom, and then in-person while wearing face masks. We first demonstrate the efficacy of the decision task, a space-themed hidden profile where team members bring to bear data on exoplanets to choose which of three planets can best support human colonization. Once validated, the task was implemented as part of a team effectiveness course over four years: two years before the COVID-19 pandemic (2018-2020), one year of remote work (2020-2021), and one year of masked in-person work (2021-2022). Students were randomly assigned to teams and roles within each course and deliberated for 30 minutes to choose the best option. Examining the quality of team decisions shows marked differences based on the modality of team deliberations. Teams deliberating in-person had the greatest chance of solving the hidden profile, followed by teams meeting in-person with face masks;teams deliberating over Zoom were least likely to solve the hidden profile. Practical implications of team decision modalities for hybrid work design are discussed.
